Planning Specialties

Helm Financial Advisors, LLC, offers fee-only, comprehensive financial planning. I believe that financial advisors should take the time to get to know their clients and to help them determine their goals in life.

With those goals in mind, I work closely with clients to integrate each part of their financial life - taxes, investments, insurance, estate planning, wills, retirement planning and cash flow - into an overall comprehensive plan to achieve their aspirations.

Many of my clients are enjoying semi-retirement or full retirement. I believe that retirement planning is about integrating your unique retirement vision with a financial plan that includes diversified investments, cash flow planning, tax planning and estate planning.

Above all, I think that it's important that my clients understand the plan and why it will work, so that they can enjoy the time that they've earned instead of worrying about the daily ups and downs of the stock market and economy. Because financial planning is a process and not an event, I believe in developing a long-term relationship with clients.

After helping clients get their financial plan into place, I continue to meet with them several times a year to ensure that they remain on track to reach their goals or to make new plans as their life changes.

Additional Information

Hello, I'm Mark Helm.

I am the founder and principal of Helm Financial Advisors, LLC. I am a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP), hold a Bachelors Degree in Economics from the University of Minnesota and a Masters Degree in International Affairs from American University. In addition, I also have earned the Enrolled Agent designation from the IRS.

I opened my financial planning practice in 2003 because I felt that too many financial advisors viewed their clients as portfolios rather than as people. While a solid portfolio lies at the heart of any financial plan, it must be integrated with your goals as a person.

As the father of two young girls, I understand that our worth is not measured in dollars and cents. However, as the father of two young girls who will someday need to go to college, I also understand that we can't lose sight of the fact that we must plan for financial future.

When not helping clients or chasing my girls, I enjoy bicycling in Virginia's wine country and helping find homes for rescued dogs.
