Planning Specialties

Paul's specialties are investments and asset allocation. He has been involved in the financial markets in a variety of capacities since 1984, when he first walked onto an institutional trading floor. While working with clients, Paul draws on a unique combination of practical experience gained while committing capital on Wall St., and academic theory distilled from graduate-level studies in portfolio management and capital markets. Paul applies this accumulated knowledge to enable his clients to attain their financial goals. These goals may include: --> generating more income from a retirement nest egg, --> allocating investment assets appropriately to reflect risk tolerance and time horizon, --> investing in a tax-efficient manner to meet future financial obligations, such as retirement or education expenses, or --> investing in accordance with social, environmental or moral criteria. In constructing client portfolios, Paul believes that effective asset allocation derives from a consideration of as many diverse asset classes as possible. Not every asset class should be represented in every portfolio in every market environment, but in general he feels that the use of a disparate array of investments results in portfolios with superior risk-return profiles. Consequently, recommended investments run the gamut from exchange-traded and index funds to actively managed mutual funds, and from individual stocks and bonds to low-correlation assets.

Additional Information

Prior to founding Five Seasons Financial Planning, Paul worked in the financial industry for eighteen years. For eleven of those years, he traded a variety of Money Market and Fixed Income securities for prominent Wall Street firms. Before offering his services to clients through Five Seasons, he was self-employed, trading stock-index futures and investing in individual stocks using proprietary screens and price targets. Paul has two business degrees that aid him in his financial pursuits. He graduated from Columbia University in New York City with an MBA, where his majors were Money and Financial Markets and Finance. While attending Columbia, Paul was named a Dean’s Scholar and was granted membership in the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. He also graduated with Great Distinction and received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University in Montreal, where he majored in Accounting and MIS. He has been quoted on a variety of financial planning topics in the local and national media, including Fox 13 News, Business Week, Kiplinger's, Newsweek, the Salt Lake Tribune, TheStreet.com, the MSN Money website, Financial Planning magazine, Financial Advisor magazine, the Deseret Morning News, and InvestmentNews magazine.
