Planning Specialties

With a decade of experience and expertise in both tax and personal finance, Carrie provides comprehensive financial guidance and tax preparation for both the ordinary and extraordinary periods of life.

Carrie is uniquely trained as both a fee-only CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Practitioner (CFP®) and an ENROLLED AGENT (EA), the highest credential a tax professional can earn from the IRS and a designation recognizing her as one of “America’s Tax Experts.”

She provides independent, objective planning to tackle your family’s financial goals from budgeting and managing debt to investing for college and retirement, as well as analyzing your insurance needs.

Carrie’s income tax expertise allows her to prepare complex individual and business income tax returns, amend returns, and file back taxes.  As an Enrolled Agent, Carrie has “unlimited practice rights” to represent and defend individuals with tax problems before the IRS, as any CPA or tax attorney might.

Carrie has her own growing family and has developed this area as a specialty in her firm.  Particularly for growing families, where goals and priorities change and evolve, guidance from a professional with her own family is invaluable.  If you are just starting your financial planning, are a growing family, or have more developed financial circumstances, Carrie will guide you through a myriad of financial decisions and help you stay on track as you plan for your future.

Carrie has contributed to many local and national publications, and has been interviewed on both tax and financial planning topics.  She has been quoted in such publications as USA Today, MarketWatch, Christian Science Monitor and NerdWallet.

Additional Information

Carrie earned her Bachelor of Science in theatre from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and has performed professionally as an actor and musician ever since.

Carrie has always loved numbers, and honed this skill while working for nearly a decade as the City Director Of Revenue Management for the Kimpton Group Seattle.  She oversaw revenue management of three boutique four-star hotels in downtown Seattle: setting rates, increasing occupancy and using statistical analyses to maximize revenue.

She then found a way to combine her varied interests many years ago when she began preparing tax returns for, and explaining tax regulations to her actor friends.  When she realized what an invaluable service this was, she took an extensive tax preparation education program and opened up shop.  She has been preparing tax returns professionally for over a decade.

In the meantime, she also completed the Financial Planning education program and became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional in 2009.  Most recently, in 2013, she earned her Enrolled Agent (EA) designation, the highest credential the IRS awards to tax professionals and a designation recognizing her as one of "America's Tax Experts."

Carrie was born in West Virginia and grew up in Des Moines, Iowa.  She has lived in New York City, Seattle, Chicago, and has settled in Coralville, Iowa with her husband, Corey and two young sons, Waylon and Carter Birch.  She has visited 50 states, 24 countries and 3 continents.  She enjoys acoustic music, gardening, traveling, and being outside.
