Michael D. Gibney is a Principal and Wealth Manager at Modera Wealth Management, LLC. His main responsibilities include helping clients develop their financial plans, implementing wealth management strategies and managing clients’ investment portfolios. In his role, he serves small business owners and individuals throughout the United States. Michael has extensive experience working in all areas of financial planning, including retirement planning, estate planning, tax planning and risk management. He specializes in retirement accumulation and distribution strategies, and investment advisory services for foundations, trusts and charitable organizations. He has over 20 years of experience in financial planning preceded by another 15 years of experience on Wall Street.

Prior to joining Modera Michael worked as a financial planner at Highland Financial Advisors, LLC and before that at Raymond James Financial Services. Michael began his career within a variety of roles on Wall Street including positions at Swiss Bank Corporation, Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns. Michael earned a Bachelors in Business Administration in Management Information Systems from Pace University as well as a financial planning certificate from New York University. Michael is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and has earned the AIF® - Accredited Investment Fiduciary® professional designation. Michael is frequently quoted in local as well as national media in the areas of personal finance and retirement planning. His media credits include The Wall Street Journal, Money Magazine, USA Today, Smart Money online, CNBC. com, the NBC Nightly News, and The Nightly Business Report.

Additional Information

He is an active leader in his community and currently serves in a leadership role for the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA). He served as the Governance Chair for the NJ Metro Multiple Sclerosis Society Board of Trustees and remains an active member today. He served as 2010 Chairman of the New Jersey Financial Planning Association and 2011-2013 Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the NJ Metro Multiple Sclerosis Society.
